Start drawing from imagination
  • You spend hours finding the perfect reference instead of actually drawing (like the figure).

  • You can draw from reference but from imagination it falls apart.

  • You can “see” the image in your head but it never looks the same on paper.

  • You feel like you’re missing a system or plan to approach drawing from imagination.

How I finally learned to draw figures from imagination

Ever since I could hold a pen, I wanted to draw figures in any pose from any angles. A rather impossible goal… Then, I got it.

First, I tried anatomy books. Perspective courses. Even mentorships.

But everything felt too complex - like I was learning everything except how to actually draw figures from imagination.

Until I realised I needed to simplify and take baby steps.

Since then, I’ve turned drawing from imagination into a sort of science. Tested exercises, refined methods, even used psychology to make learning stick.

Now I’ve built what I wish I had when I started - a clear, structured path that shows you exactly what to practice next.

That’s what the this DFFI membership is all about.

“It’s all about slowly increasing complexity

So how do you learn to draw figures from imagination?

By simplifying the complexity of your figures.

Most beginners start with overly detailed, realistic 3D figures, and get stuck. Don’t.
Start simple, then work your way up.

Most courses either focus on one fundamental (like anatomy or perspective) but drawing from imagination isn’t about one skill, it’s about combining several fundamentals.

Whatever your style is to draw a figure in any pose requires knowledge of gesture, design, form, balance, perspective and much more. To identify these fundamentals and create a figure in a certain pose we need to strip away the complexity and simplify.

How do we simplify?

We start with a 2D figure, focusing on gesture and design.
Then we move into space - from 2D → 2.5D → 3D, gradually increasing complexity and adding other fundamentals like form and perspective.

Each level adds one new challenge, so your progress feels natural, not overwhelming.

Below, you’ll see some of the figures you’ll be working with.

Why a membership?

Depending on your style, you might prefer simpler or more realistic figures.
